Welcome to ZUST(Zhejiang University of Science and Technology) if you are a new student and you're planing to live in dorm. Your mind is probably buzzing with questions, and its understandable. For international students, navigating the details of on-campus housing is one of the first and most important challenges.

This guide provides a clear, detailed breakdown of everything you need to know about living in the ZUST dorms. We will cover the essential costs for different room types, fooding, canteens and kitchen, and explain how to use the laundry facilities.


Dorm Lowdown: Types, Prices etc

There are two dorms for international students in ZUST, Tingsong Dorm right inside the campus and other one Donghe dorm right around the campus. Tingsong is quite popular among the student and it has pretty good rating in UchatDorm. And normally you will get a double room that you have to share with your roommate but if you want to live alone then you can have a single room by paying extra. A deposit of CNY 1,000 is required prior to moving in, which will be refunded upon departure from the dormitory. You are also required to make an advance payment of CNY 1,000 for electricity.

How to apply for Dorm:

You should first talk to your advisor, and tell him about where do you want to live or what you are looking for then he will provide you with the necessary documents and from there you should go to the dorm office in Donghe and start the process of moving in the dorm. Food & Canteens

There are canteens in the area of dorms. For Tingsong it's right beside the dorm and you have wide variety of meals to choose from, they have got burgers, sandwiches, noodles, rice, dumplings, fruits and much more. For Donghe there is a canteen in that area but it typically serves the Chinese food and if that is not something that you fancy you can go out and get yourself nice meal from the food stalls and shops outside which is not far.

The Kitchen

If you are on a budget or with dietary restrictions or love to have self cooked meal then:

What to Expect: There are shared kitchen per building but sometimes one building might have multiple shared kitchens on different floors.

Appliances: The shared kitchen usually have induction cooktop, microwave, sink and power outlets where you can plug your own electric appliances like rice cooker, oven, kettle etc.

Rules & Safety: After you use the shared kitchen if there is any mess that you have created make sure you clean that off. And don't leave your cooking unattended as food might spill or catch fire.


Where and how to do laundry?

Each buildings have laundry room usually in the first floor where you can wash your dirty, clothes, shoes etc.

Appliances: Every laundry room typically has Washing machines, Dryers and shoe washing machine.
